So what can you do?
Adding an addition to your home in Calgary can give you more options and really add value to your home. There are several ways you can add an addition. These include bumping out the front or back, going above existing living space or a combination of the two; an addition off the front or back with a second story.
Additions on the side of your home are usually only allowed if you can maintain 4′ to the property line when completed. Cantilevers can provide more allowance while still giving you more space in these situations.
Did you know you can also add an addition without a basement? Sound weird? Well, it’s true – additions can be done on screw piles with an insulated floor.
This method is much less invasive than digging out for a basement. It also saves a significant amount of money! Screw piles install in a day and make very little mess – Access to the location for a small tractor is all that is required. Both options have their pros and cons of course.
